Reader's rights

Cream & Black Minimalist Aesthetic Signature Logo_edited.png

Reading should always remain a pleasure, never a chore. In his book Like a Novel, the French writer Daniel Pennac rightly reminds us that every reader, young or old, possesses inalienable rights.

Here are the inalienable rights of every reader:

01

The right not to read

02

The right to skip pages

03

The right not to finish a book

04

The right to reread

05

The right to read anything

06

The right to dream while reading (The right to Bovaryism)

07

The right to read anywhere

08

The right to read aloud

09

The right to browse (The right to read in small sections, without following the order of the book from beginning to end)

10

The right to remain silent

Recognizing these rights means respecting each individual's pace, tastes, and freedom. Above all, it means understanding that the pleasure of reading stems from the freedom to choose. By valuing these rights, we enable children to build an authentic and lasting relationship with books, a relationship founded on desire, curiosity, and enjoyment.

Our Vision

Jeunesse Lecture Québec is a non-profit organization that makes the joy of reading the driving force behind its work. Its mission is to instill in young people a love of reading and to build, from an early age, a positive and lasting connection with books. By facilitating access to reading and strengthening literacy skills, the organization contributes to equal opportunities and supports educational success, making reading a vibrant, meaningful, and enriching experience.

Our Approach

To achieve this, Jeunesse Lecture Québec develops inspiring programs, structuring projects, accessible educational tools, and awareness activities for families, schools, and community groups. Through a playful approach, accessible to everyone and rooted in the everyday lives of young people, the organization fosters a love of reading, supports the development of reading skills, and guides young people in their learning and academic journey. Working closely with educational stakeholders and families, Jeunesse Lecture Québec promotes innovation, civic engagement, and collective action around a common goal: paving the way to educational success, one reader at a time.

The Lire c'est génial! project is part of a larger movement to promote reading across Quebec: the Month of Reading.
Throughout October, reading is celebrated in cultural, educational, and community settings. It's an opportunity to showcase books and bring people together around a common goal: to instill a love of reading in everyone.

Taking place during this month dedicated to promoting reading throughout Quebec, the Lire c'est génial! project participates in a vast collective movement that puts books and the pleasure of reading in the foreground.
