Reading, an act of freedom
The pleasure that reading brings makes this activity much more than a simple pastime: it becomes a powerful driver of empowerment for children. When a child reads for pleasure, they develop curiosity, confidence, and the ability to think independently. Books provide them with the words to understand the world, express their ideas, and imagine new possibilities. By nurturing a love of reading from an early age, we pave the way for autonomy, critical thinking, and inner freedom — essential foundations for growing, learning, and fully engaging in society.
Reading to empower
At Youth Literacy Quebec, we deeply believe in the empowering power of reading. Through meaningful actions, our organization makes a tangible contribution to young people’s academic success and civic engagement — one reader at a time.

Reading Is Awesome!
The Reading Passport
At the heart of the initiative is the Reading Passport, a playful companion that invites young people to take on a variety of challenges: discovering new genres, reading in unusual contexts, sharing their favorite books, reflecting on their reading journey, and exploring different literary worlds. Each completed challenge enriches their experience and gives meaning to their reading path.
