Read to become free

The joy of reading is much more than a simple pastime: it is a powerful engine of empowerment for children. When a child reads for pleasure, they develop their curiosity, confidence, and ability to think for themselves. Books provide them with words to understand the world, express their ideas, and imagine other possibilities. By cultivating a love of reading from a young age, we pave the way for autonomy, critical thinking, and inner freedom—essential foundations for growing, learning, and fully engaging in society.

Reading is great!

Reading is great! is our flagship project aimed at encouraging the adoption of regular and sustainable reading habits among students in Quebec.

Focused on autonomy, regularity, and the pleasure of reading, the project encourages young people to integrate reading into their daily lives. Through simple and motivating tools like the Reading Passport, students track their progress, take on fun challenges, and develop a sense of pride in their reading journey.

The daily reading challenge

As part of the project, students must read for a minimum of 15 minutes per day. Following each reading period, a box on their passport is stamped, marking a stage in their journey into the heart of books.

Recognition, certificates & awards

Students who accumulate 450 minutes of reading time during the month receive a certificate recognizing their consistency and perseverance. Certificates are also awarded to acknowledge the completion of the various challenges and to celebrate students' engagement and curiosity. A scoring system will be implemented to track the challenges completed by students in each school, and a ranking will be established based on the points earned. Among the schools with the highest points total, one school will win the Reading is Awesome! challenge and receive prizes, including books, a meeting with our spokespeople, and the official winning school banner.
